Leave the trauma in the past

Geraldine Claire provides a high standard of evidence based Trauma Focussed Therapy for individuals who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

If you have experienced a trauma you can go on to develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD).  Typical symptoms of PTSD and CPTSD are:

  • Flashbacks - feeling like you are back in the traumatic situation.

  • Nightmares.

  • Depression.

  • Anxiety.

  • Hyper-vigilance - feeling on edge and alert for danger.

  • Wandering Mind - you find yourself unintentionally thinking about the experience.

  • Decreased social life.

  • An “All or Nothing” thinking style.

  • Increased reliance on substances.

  • Anger.

  • Guilt.

  • Difficulty trusting others.

It's time to move forward

Traumatic experiences which can lead to PTSD include:

  • Being told you have a life threatening illness.

  • Being involve in a car accident.

  • Being abused as a child.

  • Being neglected as a child.

  • Witnessing violence.

  • Witnessing an accident.

  • Domestic Violence.

  • Coercive Control

  • Bullying

  • Narcissistic Abuse

  • Rape and sexual assault.

  • Serving in the military.

  • Working on the frontline

  • Vicarious Trauma (when we hear about lots of trauma due to our job, this is common within the police force and healthcare worker population)

If left untreated the effects of trauma can impact individuals for many years after the events occurred.

"Treatment for trauma can be life changing for individuals"

What does trauma treatment involve?

The thought of entering therapy for trauma can be overwhelming for many people because they are worried about having to talk about the details of their traumatic experiences straightaway.  Geraldine will ensure that therapy will move at a pace that feels manageable for you and your tailored treatment will include helping you to develop grounding skills so you can learn to feel safe again and more able to talk about your trauma.

Trauma focussed therapy will address each of your symptoms using a variety of techniques such as developing a life story, making timelines, letter writing, chair work, memory work, learning and practising new skills and planning new behaviours.

This kind of psychotherapeutic treatment helps you to process your memories and the associated feelings so you can access your experiences only if you need to; this means they are less likely to enter your mind seemingly out of nowhere, and if you are reminded of your experiences unexpectedly, the related feelings are far less intense and distressing.
